Testing The Wireless Waters With WiFi

from the wifi-on-the-water dept

Well, here’s a WiFi hotspot builder with a twist. Wheat Wireless Services has spent about $5 million putting WiFi along the coasts of fairly large sections of the US. The WiFi is directed out to sea, and since there’s little to no interference they claim it can reach up to 30 miles away. The plan is to sell access to cruise liners for $500/month, so they can offer internet access to their passengers and crew.
