Online Merchants Keep on Truckin'

from the go-go-merchants-go dept

It was just a few years ago that there were articles everywhere about what a complete disaster online shopping for the holidays was. In 1999 we had a story about how Toysrus.com was notifying customers who ordered in early December that they wouldn’t be receiving their packages in time for Christmas. What a difference three years makes. Toysrus.com is now run by Amazon.com, and they promised delivery up until the very last minute. It appears that, finally, online merchants have realized a lot of their business (especially) at this time of the year is a logistics business. All in all, following the articles about how people would never shop online after the mess of ’99, it really didn’t take all that long for online retailers (those still in business, anyway) to clean up their act.
