Cable Firms, TV Makers Agree On Digital TV

from the broadcast-flag? dept

The cable industry and the consumer electronics industry are getting together to announce that they’ve worked out a deal so that digital TV can move forward. I’ve read a few different articles about this, but none of them give the details of just what this “deal” is, and how it will effect end-users’ fair-use rights. There’s no indication if this means that the “broadcast flag” technology is going to be included, purposely hindering a consumer’s fair use rights. Chances are, though, that you’ll be able to do less with those digital TVs than you can do now with your good old fashioned televsion. I’m sure there will be plenty of follow up on this tomorrow, so the details will emerge.
