Interland Buys Trellix

from the Bricklin-cashes-out dept

Trellix has definitely been a fun company to follow over the years, as they continued to tweak their products and even step into the blogging world. Now, they’ve decided that it makes sense to sell out to a company that would provide them with more resources to focus on products, and not have to worry so much about finding customers. Last night, the “big” small business hosting company, Interland, announced they were buying Trellix. The Trellix team, including (of course) Dan Bricklin, will continue working for Interland. Interland will incorporate Trellix’s tools into their webhosting system, which definitely makes sense. I wonder, though, how much it limits the ability to sell Trellix into other hosting companies and ISPs. The Trellix tools will clearly be a competitive advantage for Interland, but it might be a difficult advantage to convey to users looking for a webhosting company. Most small businesses looking for a hosting company are looking for the cheapest options, with useful tools being a lower priority item.
