Hometown But A Click Away

from the hey,-look,-it's-an-internet-community dept

Amazingly enough, it seems the internet actually is good at bringing together communities of people. Apparently, it’s quite popular with Mexican immigrants living in the US to make use of websites designed to connect them with others from their towns back in Mexico. They use the site to stay in touch with friends and relatives, or to talk with new people who have similar backgrounds from the same area. Some of these sites even have more users than the number of people who actually live in the towns they’re supposed to represent. It’s nice to read stories like this that remind you that the internet really is good at bringing people together.
