Kiddie Cell Phones: Hot New Toy?

Wired has a story talking about how younger and younger kids want mobile phones. 21% of 8-to-12-year-olds already own a mobile phone, and most of the others are bugging their parents for one this holiday season. Some parents buy them for their kids for safety reasons, but others believe that kids that young shouldn’t have cell phones (or that they’re too expensive for kids). Some are afraid of the potential health issues involved with giving a kid that young a device that is constantly giving off electromagnetic radiation. Of course, all of this has to make folks like Nokia happy.
