The Matrix – Coming To A Mobile Phone Near You

For some reason people love to talk about streaming media on wireless devices. ReaNetworks showed off its RealOne Player for Nokia’s Series 60 platform at Streaming Media Europe. They demoed it on the upcoming Nokia 3650 which a mid-level phone with multimedia support. A multimedia device for the masses is great, but ultimately it will come down to service pricing. While I don’t think user will go for video calls, I can see people checking out movie trailers before buying tix or visiting the video store. But no one will use it if they are charged per megabyte streamed. Carriers will have to go to flat rate pricing if they want users to use streaming media. Get the movie companies to pay for placement. They’ll pay for anything.
