One Java To Rule Them All

For all its popularity with developers, Java hasn’t really lived up too well to its write-once-run-anywhere promise. The problem is even more troublesome when writing Java applications for handsets since each handset maker uses a different OS. So handset makers Motorola, Nokia, Sony Ericsson along with NTT DoCoMo and Sun are backing a new set of Java APIs that should make it posssible for developers to write applications that run across handset models . While that should ease development, it doesn’t increase the market for applications since carriers still control what applications users can download and use over their networks.
