Too Many Patents Could Kill Nanotechnology
from the patent-lust dept
An interesting look at all the various patents being sought for commercial products using bucky balls. The writer is afraid that these patents will harm any nanotechnology revolution by making it nearly impossible for a new nanotech startup to get out of the gate, since they’ll immediately be sued for patent infringement. Yet another reason why our patent system is in dire need of an overhaul.

far as I've heard....
billions have been spent during the past decade on buckyballs, and they have mostly been disappointments.
The growth area now is on getting other elements or compounds to form complex, non-traditional molecular structures.

Patents only last 20 years and most of the Nanotech stuff is waaaaay further out than that.
