Europe's Clueless Wireless Operators

Compared to Europe and Asia, it often feels like the US is a wireless wasteland. Over the last year that’s begun to change with new data networks, interoperable text messaging and even cool new handsets. For better or worse US carriers have a second mover advantage. The key is to learn from the mistakes and troubles of their foreign counterparts, expecially the once high-flying European carriers. While the Europeans are ahead of the US in launching new services they are experiencing the same problems in promoting uptake. Pricing, roaming, coverage and interoperablity are key issues that need to be resolved for new services to have mass market appeal. Its not enough for a carrier to solve these issues, the industry must solve these issues together.
