Techies In Hollywood

from the it's-working dept

For all the talk of how much Hollywood distrusts and dislikes technologists, it appears (according to this NY Times article) that some technologists are doing quite well in Hollywood. They’re using technology to feed into the entertainment industry’s structure – doing things that enhance what Hollywood already does, without threatening their business models. The article gives three examples – a TV channel about video games, a content production company that puts content online (and tries to sell that content to movie studios, if successful), and a digital effects studio for TV and movies. I don’t think it’s any surprise that Hollywood can make use of technology – but they still always seem to do so with this air of mistrust. They always expect the technology to turn on them.
