Today's Portal, Tomorrow's Porn

from the here-today,-porn-tomorrow dept

It’s no secret that porn sites desperately try to pick up any dead URL these days in hopes of getting some residual traffic, or pissing off the forgetful owners by forcing them to pay to get it back. Now a study has shown that porn URL turnover is quite high. There are 1,500 URLs today with pornographic content, that just six months ago were regular websites. However, at the same time, there are another 3,000 URLs that used to be porn, but now offer non-porn content (suggesting either that pornographers give up on the URLs, or on the porn itself).
