3G Faces Brighter Future Than Forecast

Could it be? Maybe we need to add an “underhype” category in addition to the “overhype” one. After the number of negative stories predicting that 3G networks would never live up to the hype they generated over the past few years, a new report has come out saying that things won’t be as bad as the most negative predictions either. Since it’s now popular to pan the possibilities of 3G, some are now suggesting that the pendulum has swung too far in the other direction, and the opportunities for 3G might end up in the “not so bad” category. The report, though, does suggest that carriers not try to charge high fees initially in a desperate effort to recoup costs, as that’s likely to drive away customers. This (often repeated) suggestion seems like a no-brainer, but it hasn’t seem to convinced most of the carriers just yet (though, it appears a few might be seeing the light, finally).
