Using Old Computers For Good

from the blinking-lights-are-always-exciting dept

In the past month or so we’ve had a couple of different stories about universal computers that would be able to understand data stored in any format. Until the day when such things are available, though, there’s still a big problem with making sure important data doesn’t get lost due to obsolete formats. Wired has the story of a guy who collects a ton of old computers and makes money by helping people convert old data to more modern formats. He’s also running a vintage computer festival this weekend that will have, as he says, “lots of big computers with blinking lights,” which is “always exciting.”
