Stop the Patent Process Madness
from the not-serving-its-purpose dept
Lauren Weinstein has an opinion piece over at Wired pointing out that the patent process has become ridiculous – and instead of promoting innovation, it’s doing plenty to hinder innovation. Too many stupid patents are being granted, and any new company has to waste a ton of time and money carefully making sure they don’t trip over the most obvious of patents. Instead of protecting innovation, the system is just keeping patent lawyers wealthy. I don’t think any of this is a surprise to most people here, but it seems that (maybe) the calls for patent process reform are finally getting loud enough to change things.
