Product Lifecycle Management

from the the-next-big-buzzword dept

I’ve read a few articles here and there about similar offerings, but it sounds like product lifecycle management (PLM) software is about to become the next big enterprise software buzzword. Unfortunately, just like so many enterprise software products, I imagine many companies will sign up for a PLM installation, thinking that it’s a cure-all. They won’t spend the time and resources necessary to install it properly and to train (and convince) people to use it properly. In a few years we’ll be hearing all these stories about wasteful PLM implementations that took many years and millions of dollars and did nothing to save companies money – as they continue to fax product plans back and forth. Technology certainly can be helpful, and PLM sounds like a great solution for certain organizations. I just worry when we get too focused on the concept and ignore the implementation issues.
