As companies keep trying to find ways to get mobile phone users to pony up extra money for data services and content, one company in the UK is falling back on the tried and true method for making many people open up their wallets: they’re offering mobile pornography. Users would pay about $10 a month to get a bunch of “erotic” SMS text messages. There have been plenty of previous attempts to bring porn to mobile phones, and not many of them have been successful. It seems that even a thousand words isn’t worth a picture for many, and the tiny, grainy, hard to see pictures that show up on a mobile phone screen don’t appeal to that many people.
