Turmoil Seen In U.S. Wireless Q3'02 Results

Amidst all the talk about tough competition in the US wireless market, our biggest gripe has been that Wall Street has been slow in changing the way it measures success for wireless carriers. To date they have typically focused on new subscriber acquisition. But one analyst has let the cat out of the bag saying, “Right now, there’s going to be a lot of shifting of subscribers around the industry. It’s a zero sum game“. We doubt this remark is a surprise to anyone, we just haven’t read anyone stating the problem so explicitly. But rather than influencing Wall Street’s valuation methods, all such talk is likely to do is start merger rumors again.
