Betting On Uncle Sam

from the what-are-the-odds? dept

Last week we posted a story about new laws trying to stop online gambling showing up the same day that the first US-based online gambling site came online. Salon takes a much more in-depth look at the issue of online gambling in the US. It seems that the various owners of online casinos want the US government to come in and regulate them already, because it would clear up a lot of the confusion and open up a huge market for them. However, in the meantime, there are plenty of ways to get around the bans – not all of which are clearly illegal. The article also compares the situation to that of the government trying to crack down on the various file trading programs, saying that each attempt, just leads people to get around it some other way, and does nothing to actually improve the situation.
