The Ryze Surprise
from the six-degrees-done-right? dept
Back in March I somehow came across Ryze, and signed up for an account. I played around for a bit, showed it to a couple of friends, and then never went back. I still get emails from them every week that I usually don’t read. The idea is nice, but I didn’t have time for it, and it seemed a little buggy at the time. It’s basically a site that makes it easy to network with young professionals. Apparently a lot of people use it to help get them jobs or new business. However, according to the article, some folks are a bit scared about what the founder is really planning to do with the site – and are afraid that they’re going to be exploited. I think that might just be the paranoia speaking, but I do wonder if Ryze actually becomes more or less useful as it grows. Obviously, initially, the network effects help as it grows – but does it reach a point of saturation, after which there are simply too many people and too many things going on to make it useful?

I joined Ryze to look at it and it is a complete waste of time. Lots of people schmoozing each other and of course if you dont live in LA, SF or NYC then it is a complete waste of time as you never get to meet people.
