Rethinking Intellectual Property Rights – Part II

A few weeks ago we wrote about a report from the Commission on Intellectual Property Rights, which basically says that current intellectual property law in the US and other “modern” countries is harmful to developing countries – and they should avoid copying that model at all costs. Here’s some more commentary about the report talking about why fair use rights are important, and why we should stop the spread of laws like the DMCA. It’s amusing, of course, that the reason we have intellectual property laws in the first place is that they’re supposed to encourage innovation. This report points out what most of us already know – in many cases they do the opposite.
