Online Personals As Your Path To Porn
from the enjoy dept
The third story in MSNBC’s series about online personals sites talks about the recent discovery by some less-than-honest porn site owners that they can use personals sites to lure unsuspecting guys to porn sites. It used to be that they would just put up pictures from the porn sites, but the dating sites have figured out how to block most of those by reviewing any new profile before it goes up. Instead, they’re now acting like real women looking for a date, and even will send a few emails and try to get the guy’s real email address out of him (so that you can get added to porn spam lists). Then, they suggest you go to their own “homepage” to learn more about them and to see some “nicer” pictures. Once you get there, though, they explain that they need your credit card – just to verify your age, as part of the deal they have with their web host to put up “steamier” pictures. Of course, in reality, the guy ends up signing up for some porn billing system that charges him $50/month. The dating sites are doing their best to crack down on this because they know that if enough of these get through no one will want to use the dating sites any more.
