The Ultimate Virus Overhype

from the yeah-yeah dept

Newsfactor has an article talking about the “ultimate” computer virus that can come along and infect many computer stealthily install itself on many computers, and then be able to morph over time to continually evade detection. Notice, however, how everyone quoted in the article makes money from keeping people afraid of computer viruses. This isn’t, of course, to say that computer viruses don’t exist or that they aren’t potentially damaging. However, it does make you wonder what their real motives are for saying things about just how worried we should be. With just a little common sense, most people can avoid just about any type of computer virus. Occassionally, they’ll slip through, but I don’t think we need the same level of hype, with headlines everywhere blaring, every time a new virus pops up.
