Issues That Will Shape The Internet
from the think-about-it dept
The latest Dan Gillmor column points out three major issues that will shape the future of the internet: the freedom to create and innovate, customer choice and competition policy, and security and liberty. I agree that these are major issues, and I even agree with his position on them, but I would have enjoyed the article more if he had some suggestions for what to do to push these issues in the right direction. Instead, he just states what he thinks is proper. Obviously, there are interests that are pushing in the opposite direction – and they believe they have valid claims. It’s not that (for example) the entertainment industry purposely wants to piss off people – it’s just that they don’t know any better. Instead of setting this up as a battle between right and wrong, wouldn’t we be better off trying to figure out a way to get everyone on the same page?
