The BBC has a fun little article where they discuss the downsides to internet.fame. They look at a few different cases of people who came up with simple ideas that took off at amazing rates online, and suddenly thrust their creators into a limelight they never expected or wanted. Included in the bunch is the guy who invented warchalking and the guy who came up with SysAdmin Appreciation Day. Fun little ideas that quickly spiraled out of control and became big internet memes. So, basically, if you don’t want to deal with people expecting stuff from you, keep your good ideas to yourself.
