Why The Blackberry Is Called That
from the the-science-of-naming dept
I’m honsetly not sure how much of this is really proven, and how much of it just sounds nice, but it seems that the folks involved in picking out “good” product names have worked it all up into a scientific frenzy of information about which letters connotate which feelings. The article talks about how the Blackberry device got its name (Strawberry was considered too slow – but the letter “b” is apparently good, and makes people think that not too many instructions will be needed to operate). I wonder what they think of Techdirt? It seems that the letters “V” and “Z” are popular these days if you’re trying to name your own products.

I wonder if the Blackberry was named for the character Blackberry in the novel WATERSHIP DOWN. Blackberry was the resourceful and most clever rabbit, the one who solved problems.
