Going Overboard On Open Source

from the too-far dept

It seems there’s been quite a bit of backlash lately towards laws that would require government agencies to go with only open source programs. First Tim O’Reilly bashed the concept, and now, an editorial over at ZDNet trashes the concept as well. It makes some very good points about limiting choice. I agree that requiring only open source software may be a bit too strong, but that doesn’t mean people shouldn’t be encouraged to check out open source solutions as alternatives.
