Former Star Analysts Not Making The Cut As VCs

At the height of the dot com boom it became fashionable for big name equities analysts to jump ship and become venture capitalists. However, it seems the skills that made them so desirable then aren’t in much demand these days, when someone with more operational experience is needed. Thus, most of those former star analysts have moved on from their venture capital jobs. Partly, this is due to layoffs where the last in is the first out. However, in many cases, people are realizing the skills an analyst has aren’t very useful when it comes to guiding a young company through its early stages.
