Are Lie Detecting Systems Lying?

It seems that lie detectors from a very simple $20 model to much more expensive systems are getting a lot more attention these days. Everyone wants one. Businesses are checking whether potential customers are honest. Insurance companies are checking their customer claims. Wives are checking up on their husbands and vice versa. And, of course, the government is using them all over the place. Of course, there’s still a huge question as to whether any lie-detecting test actually works at all, but that doesn’t seem to stop anyone.
