Tech Firms Should Give Up And Expense Options
from the making-the-case dept
Hal Plotkin give his opinion on why tech companies need to suck it up, realize they’ve lost this battle, and start expensing stock options. I go back and forth on this one, as I think both sides have really convincing arguments. However, Plotkin one by one tries to cut through the “don’t expense options” arguments. I’m still wondering if there’s not a reasonable compromise in the middle somewhere, such as the one Craig Barrett recommended a few months back.

Idiot...
I noticed he doesn’t handle the argument that stock options ARE accounted for in dilution of the EPS. Also, he doesn’t consider what will happen if they do expense stock options. i.e. — companies will stop issuing them, and employee compensation costs will increase (and that costs REAL money).
