Real Networks Might Go Porn

from the it's-a-business-model dept

A few years back Yahoo got into all sorts of PR trouble because some of the sellers on Yahoo Stores were selling porn DVDs. They’d been doing so for years, but some reporter picked up on the story, made it a big deal as if Yahoo! itself were in the porn business and Yahoo! ended up closing down those stores out of fear of a backlash. Apparently, the days of worrying about what the public thinks of porn are over, as Real Networks is thinking about adding an “adult” tier to their streaming video programs. It seems they’ve realized that this might be helpful in keeping them in business. They compare it to cable companies that offer porn pay-per-view channels.
