Other Internet Registrars Back ICANN
from the pick-your-corner dept
A couple weeks ago VeriSign and some other big registrars wrote a letter asking that ICANN’s power should be scaled back. At the time, I pointed out that, while agreed with the sentiment, I didn’t think VeriSign was an unbiased party. They obviously have a lot to gain if ICANN went away. Today, a group of seven (smaller) registrars are getting ready to send a letter saying they support ICANN. Unfortunately, this move seems designed mainly to go against VeriSign’s move and not address many of the very real problems with ICANN. Clearly something like ICANN is needed. However, it needs to be seriously reformed in order to be useful.
