Norwegians Looking For Tech Savvy DeCSS Judge

from the well,-it's-a-start dept

The trial of Jon Johansen, creator of the DeCSS software, in Norway has been pushed back until they can find a “tech savvy” judge. On the whole, it seems like a good thing that they’re looking for a tech savvy judge. If they find one, maybe he or she will realize how ridiculous the whole thing is. Johansen wrote the DeCSS code in order to watch DVDs (that he legally owned) on his Linux box, which seems like a perfectly reasonable, perfectly legal thing to do. The fact that it could be used by people to watch DVDs in regions where they’re not supposed to be watched doesn’t seem like it’s Johansen’s problem.
