Bush Advisor Says Hackers Are Obligated To Find Security Flaws

from the and-then-we'll-throw-them-in-jail dept

Richard Clarke, President Bush’s computer security advisor, today said that hackers have an “obligation” to find security holes in computer systems and to alert those responsible. He also says that the hackers need to be protected from silly legal threats from technology companies against those who discover the holes. This is somewhat surprising from an administration that seems to support throwing all hackers in jail. Though, Clarke does say that people shouldn’t reveal the security holes until they’ve been patched.
