Wireline Carriers to Fuel Mobile Data Growth
Kinetic Information thinks that struggling telecom players will look to wireless computing to help them achieve new growth. Their existing businesses are struggling due to overcapacity and falling prices. To some degree it makes sense that wired telcos should be the ones pushing WLANs like the UK’s BT. But I’m not sure that there’s enough money there to make up for all their other problems. And from a wired telco’s perspective WLANs are ultimately a broadband application. So they need to figure out how to roll out broadband cost effectively and get people to use it and pay for it.
