Price, Price, Price
Everytime a new 2.5/3G wireless application is introduced, people are pretty quick to dismiss it. MMS is no different. People started dissing it before the first devices hit the market. But MMS maybe the key to getting users to upgrade to new phones. In particular picture messaging will be the killer MMS app if carriers get aggressive on pricing. Picture messagging is a logical and gradual way to introduce users to 2.5/3G networks and devices. So pricing it right will impact adoption of other 2.5/3G application. In fact I think picture messaging will be the application that makes wireless data take-off with US consumers.
