Some Bands Like Having MP3s Online

from the imagine-that dept

An Anonymous Coward sent in this article from NewsForge about the Washington Post hosting MP3s for local bands. Apparently, a few other newspapers do the same thing. Local bands are encouraged to upload their songs for free download, and the paper writes features about the various songs and events where local bands appear. It seems like a good deal for everyone. The newspaper site gets more traffic, promotes local bands (which can help get more advertising from local merchants), and the bands get more publicity. The only entity that loses out are the major record labels who lose some more credibility (as if they had any left) when they talk about the “evils” of downloading music.
