MPAA Sues Film88

from the already-shut-down... dept

The MPAA has tracked down the people it claims are really responsible for both Movie88 and Film88, two sites that let people stream movies online for $1/movie. Film88, of course, made news by trying to base their operations out of Iran. It turned out the servers were in the Netherlands, and were quickly shut down by the MPAA. The MPAA, though, says that it’s really the work of one company who they are now suing to prevent them from launching again. I’m not quite sure what the lawsuit can do, since the company currently isn’t operating at all. It would seem to me, the smart thing to do would be to buy them out (or, at the very least, partner with them). Here’s a company that has found a way to offer a service that people are willing to pay for online – which the movie industry itself has been unable to do.
