Garbage In, Innovation Out

The latest MIT Tech Review article from Michael Schrage talks about how many innovations historically have come from waste materials – or at least, trying to make wasted materials more useful. He thinks it’s an interesting fact to watch for, and says that in the internet age, the “waste” is processing power. Thus, he’s intrigued by the various distributed computing apps that make use of otherwise wasted cycles.
