Rambus Accused Of Antitrust Violations

from the finally dept

The FTC has finally filed charges against Rambus for antitrust violations. The case, if you hadn’t been following it, is fairly interesting. Rambus representatives sat on a standards board concerning the SDRAM standard for many years. During that time they pushed to have certain technologies included in the standard, without revealing that they had filed for patents on those technologies. Once the standard was set and the patents came through, Rambus started to demand high licensing fees from those companies. A ruling against Rambus could mean that they can’t get any money for those patents.
