Misleading Articles About Web Porn Filters

from the thanks-for-the-balanced-story dept

It’s amazing what reporters can get away with these days. In the Washington Post today there’s an article about libraries not putting porn filters on the internet that quotes a number of outraged parents who (gasp!) can’t believe libraries allow such open access. The article mentions the court ruling, but only says the decision was based on free-speech rights. Not once does the article point out that these filters simply don’t work – and, in fact, often block very legitimate non-porn sites. Instead, the article makes it sound as if the courts are saying that kids deserve access to porn as well.
