Debating Forced Copy Protection

from the you're-wrong!--no,-you're-wrong! dept

Well, this doesn’t seem to be going anywhere at all. A debate today held by the Cato Institute concerning forced copy protection being added to all technology didn’t seem to resolve very much. Both sides accused the other of misleading everyone. The technology side said that the entertainment industry is making a bigger deal about “piracy” than they should be. The entertainment industry claims the technology industry is making a bigger deal about the effects of forcing everyone to include copy protection in their technology than they should. It doesn’t seem like a very useful debate, as it boiled down to “you’re wrong!” and “no, you’re wrong!”.
