Palm OS 5 Shipping to Developers
When you compare todays’ Palm OS PDAs to Pocket PC PDAs it’s easy to see why Pocket PC is catching up. The Palm OS is showing it’s age. Hopefully that will change this fall when Palm launches its first Palm OS 5 based device in the fall. OS 5 should be shipping to developers now. OS 5 is designed to take advantage of faster hardware and have better multimedia and communications support. This space is getting crowded and even tougher for Palm since they are in a defensive position. Their new operating system has to be great or else they will just give market share to Microsoft and maybe even Symbian.
