Voicestream in Play?

The Voicestream acqusition rumor is picking up steam. First Business 2.0 published an article earlier this week about why a deal with Cingular would make sense (complimentry technology and the two are already in a jv). Then DT announces their numbers for Q1, which aren’t great due to drops in their wireline business. And then WirelessWeek.com reports that in a magazine article coming out tomorrow DT’s CEO claims that aVS merger would only be possible in a deal where DT is the senior partner. More than anything this indicates that they are open to a deal, something they have denied to date. Given DT’s poor numbers and the fact that VS is the smallest of the big 6 carriers, DT may want to unload it. But they are never going to get the $30B that they paid for it.
