Sony Changes Opinion On Aibohacks

from the hack-hack-away dept

Last October Sony stupidly tried to stop people from creating new moves for their Aibo pets. It made no sense – though Sony said they were doing it to prevent people from reverse engineering protections on their memory sticks (though, it’s not like telling people not to do it was actually going to stop anyone). Now it seems that Sony has (at least to some extent) changed their mind. They’re releasing a programming toolbox for people to hack their Aibos. Of course, maybe they were planning something like this all along and the DMCA threat was really just to get rid of the competition?
