Federal Spam Bill Moving Along

from the but-it's-opt-out dept

A federal anti-spam bill is likely to be voted on soon and could very well pass. Whether or not it does any good is another question. It’s an “opt-out” bill, which means that if you tell a spammer you don’t want to hear from them again, they aren’t allowed to send you any more spam. Of course, what good is that when you can’t actually contact a spammer – or if they’re always changing their contact info. A real spam bill that would make a difference would require a clear, confirmed “opt in” instead of the other way around.
