American University Goes Wireless

from the cut-the-wires dept

American University has had enough of wires and have decided to go entirely wireless. Instead of phones in dorm rooms, they’re providing every student with a mobile phone from Cingular and another unnamed company. It says that students will also be able to surf the web wirelessly, apparently through a WiFi network – though they never specifically say that. They do say that both the mobile phone network and the wireless LAN will cover the entire campus. Sounds great. Hopefully, other universities will follow suit and graduating students will be so horrified by the lack of open hotspots all over the world, that they’ll force everyone to install WiFi for the rest of us.
