Send Text Messages From The Airplane

from the receive-nothing dept

I have a friend who (despite what the airlines tell you) insists on using his BlackBerry pager on airplanes. Since I live near the airport, whenever he’s flying in, I’ll often receive a short email telling me that he’s over my house right now. It seems that Singapore Airlines is going to let everyone tell friends they’re flying overhead. Passengers will be able to send out SMS and email text messages from their seats – but they won’t be able to receive a thing. During trials, the system will be free, but it will eventually cost some undetermined (yet, they promise, “affordable) amount.
