Spam Spam Spam Spam

from the it's-everywhere dept

The San Jose Mercury News is running a collection of stories all about spam. They point out that spam keeps getting worse because the few laws put in place to block it are weak and useless. They also have the required profile of a admitted spammer, who says there’s a lot of money in spamming (they mention the various cars he owns as if to prove his success). They also try to put some of the blame on various affiliate programs that they think encourages spammers to sign up and send out spam. I think this last point is a little silly. Sure, many spammers use affiliate programs – but the affiliate programs have good legitimate uses. It’s the spammers who are abusing them. Interestingly, they don’t talk much about what you can do to fight the spam coming into your own mailbox by using tools like Spamcop or SpamAssassin.
