The New Mobile Infantry

from the robots-everywhere dept

Wired Magazine has a good article about what’s going on in the world of tactical mobile robots. It mostly focuses on the guy in military fatigues who showed up at Ground Zero on September 11 with a number of robots to help with the rescue effort. It certainly got a lot of publicity around then. Turns out, however, that the guy had actually retired on September 10th. He’s now working on a number of other robotic systems that can be used in dangerous situations. The article talks about a few different companies – many of which have different strategies. All seem to think that we’re still a ways away from having really reliable robots on the battlefield. However, as the robots get better and better, it looks like we’ll be seeing them show up a lot more in dangerous situations.
